Aramide Sarumoh (born 22 June), better known as Aramide, is a Nigerian female singer and songwriter. She describes her genre of music as Afro-Soul. Her song “Iwo Nikan” earned her an award for Best Vocal Performance (Female) at the Headies 2015. She is a graduate of Political science from the University of Jos.
Aramide is a Multi-Award Winning Nigerian Afro-Soul/Jazz artiste. An indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State discovered the talents of singing and writing as a teenager and decided to nurture them.
After secondary school, she learned to play the saxophone and guitar, two instruments she is quite passionate about.
While studying Political Science at the University of Jos, Aramide participated in the Star Quest talent hunt show, making her part of a band that finished Third Runners up. Her ever-growing solo career took off shortly after graduation.
Aramide sings about love, betrayal, friendship, trust, and the attendant joys and aches of womanhood. Her musical influences include Erykah Badu, Miriam Makeba, Sade, Angelique Kidjo, and other greats.
Her approach to songwriting and her soft but deep and powerful voice are some of the things that stand her out.
Aramide was the winner of the Best Female Artist in West Africa at the 2016 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), Alternative Artist of The Year award at the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA), and Best Vocal Performance (Female) Category at the 2015 edition of the Headies Award.
Ever the avid performer, Aramide has performed at various events in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Dubai, the United States, and Canada.
Her debut album SUITCASE was released in November 2016 and features singles like ‘FunMi Lowo’ ft. Sir Dauda and ‘Love Me‘ ft. Adekunle Gold has topped various charts for several weeks and are currently receiving massive airplay on radio stations within and outside Nigeria. This is in addition to her award-winning single, ‘Iwo Nikan‘ which talks about unconditional love,and ‘Feeling This Feeling‘ which talks about Love and Friendship.
Having featured on songs with other Nigerian artists which include Good Man by eLDee, an offshoot from a campaign “Violence against women”, Aramide has worked and shared the stage with the likes of Banky W, Sound Sultan, Tiwa, Dr Sid, MI, Adekunle Gold, Koker, eLDee, Waje, Yemi Alade and many more.
Her acoustic rendition and female version of eLDee’s popular song “Today Today” and Davido’s “Ekuro” went viral and received much acclaim compared to the original.
