Makalatsi afro band was formed by lead singer, composer, and percussionist Benson Kalindi and guitarist,singer-composer, and songwriter Hakim Ziya. The musical journey started in 2011. Makalatsi means natural elements. their music is heavenly influenced by mijikenda cultural and music styles such as gonda,chechemeko,mwanzele,and has also coastal taaarabic melodies influences with different elements dimensions.
Makalatsi afro band music touches every aspect of the fabric of society, including social issues such as women and children abuse, poverty, and love. The group is mostly inspired by HARE bin hare, mauled juma, safari sounds, the mushroom, Daudi kabaka, mzee ngala,oliver mtukudzi,bob Marley etc.Makalatsi afro band continues to push creative limits with their unique styles.
Makalatsi afro band looks forward to their next stage of development as they seek to explore new combination ways to combine different acoustic elements and different African styles.Makalatsi aro band thanks God for the spirit and music from our fathers in heaven for guiding us through our musical journey.
