Voltz JT (born Nkosilathi Sibiya, 19 March 1999) is a Zimbabwean hip-hop artist known for pioneering the JechaTrap sound—a fusion of British drill music and indigenous Shona language. He is widely recognised for his socially conscious lyrics and strong influence on Zimbabwe’s contemporary hip-hop scene.
Early Life and Education
Voltz JT was born and raised in Chitungwiza, where he developed an early interest in music and storytelling.
He attended Sanyati Baptist High School, where he began experimenting with music during his secondary education. He later pursued higher education at the University of Zimbabwe, graduating in December 2022 with a degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering.
Career
Early Career (2016–2020)
Voltz JT recorded his first track, Boys Rangu, in 2016 while still a student. His early work laid the foundation for his signature sound and lyrical approach.
Breakthrough and Rise (2021–Present)
His career gained significant momentum in 2021 with the release of These Days, a viral track that resonated widely for its social commentary on life in Zimbabwe’s urban communities.
He is currently signed under Mulanation Entertainment, where he continues to expand his reach and influence.
