Jay Rox, born Jackson Ngambi Banda, is widely regarded as one of the most artistic stage performers, record producers, and composers of his time. Jay has always had a unique connection with music, and his ability to change the tone of Zambian music is not surprising.
He was a part of the award-winning Zambian hip-hop ensemble “The Zone Fam” before going on a solo music career and becoming one of Zambia’s most popular producers and rappers. Jay came to prominence after their debut single “Shaka Zulu On Em” was released on March 1, 2011. Jay has brought about so much change in the music industry in recent years, giving Zambian artists hope that the impossible can be made achievable.
Jay Rox has received several honours as a solo singer, including Best African International Act at the 2015 BEFFTA honours, Best Collaboration at the Born & Bred Awards, Pink Gala recognition, and two Mosi Zambian Music Awards at the 2016 ZMA Awards. Jay’s music embodies African pride by paying attention to African heritage, culture, people, and tradition. It extols African historical traits and their contributions to the Africa we know today.
His songs mostly motivate the younger generation to embrace who they are, and where they came from, and to promote African culture.
