Jackie Queens is a Zimbabwean-born, South African-based songwriter and vocalist who is widely regarded as the dean of African female electronica vocals due to her significant influence in both art and commerce.
Queen’s voice has been characterized as soulful, warm, and nostalgic as she draws attention to uplifting lyrics to go along with the afro-house, tech, and house rhythms she uses in her music. Despite having an impressive history as a performer, Queens established the independent electronic label and agency, Bae Electronica.
She has the biggest influence, though, through her own label Bae Electronica and the initiatives she leads, including GIRLS, # WomenOfHouse, and # MakingMusicTogether. Providing a stage for performers who are frequently unheard and unappreciated, as well as playing a significant part in the education of the South African dance music industry as a whole.
With her voice’s deep, soulful, and nostalgic warmth, Queens offers a palette of candour, inspiration, and a palpable spirit of inclusiveness.
