Kabza De Small (Kabelo Petrus Motha) is a DJ and record producer from South Africa. He was born in Mpumalanga and raised in Pretoria on November 27, 1994.
Kabelo is known as the “King of Amapiano” and is regarded as a pioneer of the Amapiano genre. With his debut in 2018, he played a critical part in the popularization of the Amapiano genre as a whole.
Kabza launched his DJ career in 2009, dabbling with genres such as Afro-fusion house and electronic dance music (EDM). In 2016, he released his debut EP, “Avenue Sound,” on the House Afrika Records label, and two years later, with the songs “Amabele Shaya” and “Umshove,” which included guest spots from amapiano veteran Leehleza, he got his production credentials.
“Scorpion Kings,” “Piano Hub,” “The Return of Scorpion Kings,” and the most current “Once Upon A Time in Lockdown,” are only a few of Motha’s collaboration studio albums with record producer DJ Maphorisa. The hit track 15th Avenue and Alex can be found on Motha’s second EP, “Pretty Girls Love Amapiano.” Kabza De Small has been crowned the most-streamed South African artist on Spotify South Africa for 2019.
I Am The King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust, Motha’s highly awaited first album, was released on June 26th. The album has received a lot of praise, and it set a new milestone for being the first album to have all 26 tracks in the Top 30 of Apple Music’s Top 100 music list in South Africa. The album contains African heavyweights Wizkid, Burna Boy, Cassper Nyovest, and DJ Maphorisa on the big single “Sponono,” as well as fresh talent Shasha, Focalistic, Daliwonga, and others.
