DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, is a DJ and record producer from South Africa. Maphorisa, who was born on November 15, 1987, has a subtle authority over South Africa’s greatest musical trends.
He remained behind the boards for several years, creating some of the country’s biggest hits to date, including Mafikizolo’s “Khona,” Kwesta and Cassper Nyovest’s “Ngud,” and his own star-studded, highly acclaimed 2016 release, “Blaqboy”-EP.
This Soshanguve native is also acknowledged as a co-producer on Drake’s “One Dance” and has written songs for Major Lazer, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz, Wizkid, Runtown, Davido, and Vanessa Mdee, to name a few.
DJ Maphorisa has blazed new trails in a variety of genres, including Afropop (“Soweto Baby”), Afro-house (“Lahla” by Busiswa), trap (“Check My”), pop (“Snapdatsh!t”), and gqom (“Midnight Starring”).
He makes his debut as one of the greatest amapiano DJs in the world and has cemented his place as one of the best in the South African music scene.
