run up artist

Born Felix Odei Tinkorang, but known to the world as Run Up, this dynamic Reggae/Dancehall/Afro-Dancehall artist has carved a name for himself through sheer passion, resilience, and a deep connection to his roots. Raised in Zeetown (Sabon Zongo) and having spent most of his life in Kaneshie, Run Up’s story is one that embodies the vibrant energy of Ghana’s urban life and the powerful rhythms that flow through its streets. It was in the heart of Kaneshie that his love for music transformed from a simple fascination into a life purpose — a calling that would later define his identity and artistic direction.

From an early age, Run Up was surrounded by music. His father, a lover of various sounds, would often fill their home with a blend of reggae, highlife, and hiplife — genres that would unknowingly shape Run Up’s creative foundation. Those moments were more than just background music; they were lessons, emotions, and experiences that stirred his young soul. Hearing legends like Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, and Kojo Antwi helped him understand that music was not just entertainment, but a form of storytelling — a way to communicate emotions, experiences, and truths.

As he grew older, his curiosity about sound and rhythm deepened. During his adolescent years, Run Up began experimenting with writing lyrics and freestyling among friends. It was around this time that fate introduced him to Wanga Lee, a talented artist and mentor figure who would play a major role in his musical journey. Wanga Lee took Run Up under his wing, teaching him the intricacies of dancehall music — from flow and delivery to stage presence and lyrical composition. Their relationship mirrored the bond between Vybz Kartel and Popcaan, with Run Up soaking up every lesson like a sponge and refining his own style in the process.

As Run Up’s confidence grew, he started performing at local shows, street jams, and community events, where people quickly noticed his energy and unique sound. His stage name, Run Up, represents his unstoppable spirit — always pushing forward, always rising, and always ready to take on any beat that comes his way.

He blends the smooth and conscious vibe of reggae with the fiery energy of dancehall and the rhythmic groove of Afrobeat, creating a sound that feels both real and international. Over time, his dedication to his craft has opened doors for him to work with foreign producers, including Iggy Don from Jamaica.

Run Up has released several singles and projects, including his EP titled Yard Man Diaries, which features Larruso, one of Ghana’s hottest dancehall artists, and Deerill, a talented Afrobeat artist. The project reflects his growth as an artist and his ability to blend cultures and styles while staying true to his roots. Each song tells a story and carries the same passion that defines who Run Up is — a hardworking artist with big dreams and a love for authentic music.

His journey is a testament to the power of dreams, determination, and authenticity.
